My friends, I love you.
The weather here has turned suspiciously cold. I’ve pulled quilts over our usual covers the last few nights, and finally closed the windows. (I heard the heat pump kick on a few nights ago. Through the open window. While buried under three quilts.) While our trees stay stubbornly green, I believe it is safe to say fall has finally arrived.
Yesterday I saw an article claiming there would be an estimated 2.2 million birds migrating through my area last night. The article was using data put together by a local college, and I wondered how much of that was with an alliance with the Cornell Lab and their massive amount of bird data.
This morning, I checked the BirdCast, and lo! 2,280,400 birds (give or take) migrated over my county last night! That’s a lot of wings beating through the darkness. We are truly in the middle of migration.
So I’ll say it again. If you are in a migratory flight path, consider turning off your outside lights at night, so the feathered friends make it to their destination safely and on time.
In the meantime, I think it’s well past time to cast on my next sweater. And bring out my current collection. I may not migrate, but I can shift to warmer crafting.
